First, remember to drink water throughout the day. Often times when we are thirsty we confuse ourselves into thinking we are hungry and eat a lot of unnecessary calories. The next time you’re “hungry” and craving something unhealthy, drink a glass of water. If you want a little more flavor, add lemon or lime or drink tea and your weight loss efforts will be boosted instantly. Water also helps your body in valuable ways and almost everyone does not drink enough water every day. Second, instead of thinking about what you can take from your diet, think about what you can add to it. Try to eat five to ten servings of fruits and vegetables a day. If you don’t like to eat vegetables alone, mix them with other foods such as pasta or salad. One great way to start your day is plain yogurt mixed with whole grain cereal and fresh fruit. Fruits and vegetables will reduce your hunger, provide you with more nutrients, and help you lose weight.

Then, only eat when you are truly physiologically hungry. We often eat for emotional reasons rather than because our body needs food. We often crave food just for a momentary pleasure but this hinders our weight loss. Also, try not to eat snacks after dinner. This is the time when you usually eat out of habit rather than hunger and need. The ice cream or chips you eat in front of the TV are ruining your chances of losing weight. Try to find snacks that you like that are not too fattening and after a while stop eating them until night.
