Are You At Your Peak?
Do you know if you are an early bird or a night owl or maybe something in between? It is important to know what time of day you are typically most alert and therefore best for important activities. This is called your peak time. You want to schedule your most important activities around your peak times to get the best they have to offer. Below is a quick test to determine your peak time so you can become a better time manager. To take the test, simply place a tick next to the objects that most closely resemble you.
1. You’re chipper in the morning!
2. You wonder why on earth you have to get up so early.
3. When it comes to business, you prefer to go to work before lunch.
4. You do your best work hours after you get back from lunch.
5. You never plan to have a meeting at the end of the work day, but you can schedule one when you arrive at the office.
6. Scheduling meetings after 3:00 pm is your standard operating procedure when you have that responsibility.
7. You often finish your business phone calls before noon.
8. You mostly talk to customers and colleagues on the phone late during the workday.
9. Bedtime usually comes before the late evening news.
10. When you go to bed at night, it could already be the next day!
If you picked most ODD numbers, you’re probably an early bird, otherwise known as a morning person. Although some people consider it unusual for an individual, it is when people are most effective in groups. When planning your day, you should put your highest priority items on your morning schedule. Also plan any meetings with others between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Planning to hold your meeting at a time that is more convenient for others will insure more attendance and fewer late arrivals.
If you chose mostly even numbers, you’re probably a night owl, otherwise known as a late-night person. Some people consider this to be normal for most individuals, but there really is no “average” person. If you don’t work in the evenings, you should schedule your highest priority items for the late afternoon. If you want to do your work during your rush hour, you should consider others when planning your meetings and schedule them late in the morning or between 2:00 and 4:00 pm so that others can get to work on time. If you like to work later hours (both start and stop times), you can stay in the office to follow up on meetings while the early birds go home.
If you come up with an even balance between odd and even numbers, try the test again. Right now it shows that you are confused about who you really are.
