Many great leaders have conquered the world with their courage and strength. However, I want to single out in this letter a man whom I truly admired and respected by many others, both living and dead. This is a letter of thanks to the Roman general and politician Julius Caesar.

Dear Julius Caesar,

You are certainly one of the most famous leaders in history. The fact that you played such an important role in the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire shows how influential your leadership was on Rome at that time. Even today, the idea that the rulers of other countries bear the title “Caesar” shows how your prestige and name has been achieved to an unprecedented degree.

What I love most is the fact that so many people around the world still appreciate your ideals and innovations. I believe that a person is truly remarkable, a leader can only be truly effective when many respect and follow that person. That’s the definition of an effective leader– you certainly were. With this in mind, you are an inspiration to me. I never had political aspirations like yours but in many other situations that required me to step up and take the initiative, I took your insights. For that, this thank you letter is for you.

I remember Shakespeare calling you “the leading man of all this world” and I really don’t agree with his sentiment. Some criticize your choice to create a dictatorship, and yet the success your nation has achieved under your guidance is undeniable. Moreover, your outlook on life, in which you were temperate in all things, thorough, evenly balanced and self-controlled, are traits, I believe, admirable and should be emulated.

And I would like to add that the Latin language has always fascinated me. I believe it was integral to the development and evolution of the English language, and evidence of this can be seen in many words and phrases in the English language that have their roots in Latin. I actually felt this strongly enough to write an article. And as for you, I’m even more impressed that you were the number one speaker during your time. What an inspiring feat you have done in such a captivating language!

I hope this letter of thanks, Caesar, expresses my gratitude for all of this.
