Apple iPhone 6S Review

A few months ago Apple released the iPhone 6S and if you are not familiar with Apple practice, you might be confused about this new iPhone because they look similar to the iPhone 6 but don’t worry they are not the same. At least on the inside.

There’s better hardware, an improved camera, a stronger case, new 3D Touch and (finally) 2GB of RAM. Over the years the ‘S’ always brought something new to the plate, the iPhone 4S added Siri and the iPhone 5S had a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

The main addition to the iPhone 6s is a new pressure-sensitive touchscreen technology called 3D Touch which, while pretty cool right now, will surely get even more interesting when more apps are released for it.

All in all, what Apple needs to do is convince people that the S variant of the iPhone 6 is worth the upgrade, even if there are plenty of other smartphones to choose from, and unfortunately the iPhone 6S doesn’t seem like a game changer. There are only a few subtle upgrades that have a lot of potential with future updates or installments.

This translates into smooth multitasking, handling graphically-demanding tasks (like playing games) well, no stuttering, no frame drops, and it never lagged while we were using the phone.

But there are some drawbacks. Apple decided to keep 16GB as the base memory for the iPhone 6S, and since there is no microSD slot, filling that 16GB won’t happen anytime soon.

Software

iOS has always been the backbone of iPhones and new installments, iOS 9 offers the same stability and user-friendliness that we are used to and with its subtle changes over the years and the newly added 3D Touch, iOS 9 is. The best iPhone software ever.

As always, iOS is fast and responsive, the App Store is still vibrant (and of higher quality than the Google Play Store), and apps have undergone quite a few transformations and upgrades.

Apple Maps, now, has transit directions, a news app that, at its most basic, pulls topics from different sources into a magazine-style interface. Notifications are now filtered by time, not by app, and thanks to the M9 coprocessor, Siri is always on standby now you can wake up Siri by shouting instead of pressing a button. Siri, too, can respond to many more commands.

3D Touch is its main feature, and although it’s still in its infancy, it’s best implemented with Apple’s Mail. You can preview messages, archive them or mark them as unread.

battery life

iPhone 6S has a non-removable 1715 mAh battery. Yes, you heard right, the battery is actually smaller, a downgrade from the iPhone 6’s 1810mAh.

There have been complaints about the battery since the iPhone 6 and yes, Apple has not addressed the issue. However, battery life averages 15 to 16 hours a day, and there are plenty of people who need to recharge their iPhone 6S by mid-afternoon.

It’s not incomprehensible, because the implementation of 3D Touch is. There wasn’t enough space in the battery and they wanted to keep the same design as the iPhone 6. Still, there are many smartphones that feature 4000mAh and battery life is usually a deciding factor for buyers.
