Atlanta’s New International Terminal
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport opened the new Maynard H. on May 16, 2012. The doors of the Jackson International Terminal opened. This long-awaited facility will help Atlanta meet the demands of 21st century international travelers. Hartsfield-Jackson is the busiest airport in the world and handled nearly 10 million international passengers in 2011. Millions of international passengers are expected to pass through the new Atlanta terminal on their way to and from nearly 80 destinations in 50 countries. Airlines operating out of the international terminal include Air Canada, Air France, AirTran/Southwest, British Airways, Delta, KLM Royal Dutch, Korean Air and Lufthansa.
The international terminal is the result of a decade of planning and construction. The terminal building, people mover tunnel extension and new parking structure were designed by Atlanta Gateway Designers. This new route with 12 gates is known as Concourse F. There are separate safety lanes for incoming and outgoing passengers. The facility is LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The new terminal features a sweeping roofline and an attractive glass and metal facade.
Passengers will be able to enjoy world-class shops, restaurants, business services and personal services in the new international terminal. Retail outlets include Brookstone, Tommy Hilfiger, Mac Cosmetics, Sunglasses Icon, InMotion Entertainment and The Body Shop. There are two duty free locations. Dining options will include gourmet markets and healthy eating options, as well as quick food options, bars and coffee shops. Wi-Fi service will also be available.
Departing international passengers will check in at the new international terminal. Passengers flying from Atlanta to another US city will still check in at the domestic terminal to connect to their international flight. Passengers traveling to Atlanta on international flights will no longer have to re-check their bags. All arriving passengers will pick up their bags at IT Baggage Claim.
The new international terminal is accessible from the new airport entrance off I-75 at Exit 239. The entrance to the domestic terminal is off I-85. A free 24-hour shuttle will connect the two terminals. Passengers using MARTA transportation will need to take a shuttle to or from the airport to the domestic terminal. Other ground transportation options, including taxis and limos, will be available at the new terminal. Another shuttle will provide transportation to the rental car center. Offsite airport parking shuttles will be able to transport passengers to and from the new international terminal. Hotel shuttles will also be available at the International Terminal’s Ground Transportation Center.
