How to Make Sense Out of Nonsense
Your senses are the physical abilities of sight, smell, hearing, touch and taste. If you feel something, it means you are aware of it or you sense it, even if it is not obvious. If you think something is the case, it means you believe that it is the case, even if you don’t have clear evidence to support your belief. If you feel guilt or shame, it means you feel guilty or ashamed. If you feel that something is your duty, you feel it is important. Sensibility, according to the dictionary, is the ability to make good judgments and act sensibly. The word nonsense is used for something that does not make sense or sense, is untrue, silly or silly. It is also used to refer to things that we don’t approve of, that don’t make sense to us, or that seem ridiculous or pointless. If something makes sense, it means you can understand it. If it’s nonsense, it doesn’t mean anything. But, someone once told me that you can make sense of nonsense. i agree
A long time ago when I was waiting for my bus at the bus station, I saw a man crossing the road, who is crazy. The man knew many people in the part of town where a popular mental hospital was said to exist. Our man was completely naked. As I watched, I saw him occasionally picking something to eat from the box, chatting and laughing to himself and his imaginary friends. As he was crossing the road, a truck came towards him. Our man looked up, saw the truck, and ran across the road in great haste. I was shocked, because I don’t understand how crazy people, having lost the coordinated use of their senses, can avoid danger. This man’s actions made no sense to me at the time. I once saw a crazy woman on the street hugging her baby. The authorities tried to take the baby away from her and she rebelled. I have heard of a madman who keeps saying to himself, and who cares to listen, that there are seven kinds of madmen, and he reveals one of them. As he went, the merchant would shout, “Oh, crazy, 25 + 37” and he would shout back, “62” or whatever was the correct answer, without stopping, or seeing that someone had asked. Over the years, as I thought about it, I realized that even a crazy person can have the ability to make good decisions and act rationally. Conversely, many sane people can act irrationally by making quick, erratic and unusual decisions. There is clearly a thin line between insanity and sanity.
Many people speak and act without paying attention to what they say or do. We all take action, but few people get paid for it. Acting and speaking come naturally and easily to many people, although the English language can be very confusing. For example, there is a difference between “start-up” and “upstart”! How can a foreigner know the difference when so many born and bred English speakers themselves struggle with the language? Most people can speak, but making sense when we speak is a task that must be learned. If someone says you’re “talking out of the blue,” take his advice. Try to see if you yourself can understand what you are saying. If it sounds confusing to you, it will probably sound confusing to others. Sometimes, things that make sense to you don’t make perfect sense to other people. Interpreting words and actions is at the core of effective communication skills. I regularly try to make sense out of things that make no sense to me. Here are some tips that I have learned and try to apply, which have worked for me.
1. Assume that the other person does not understand you.
2. Try to break down your thoughts into manageable chunks of information.
3. Keep it short and simple. Use a clear voice with simple, uncomplicated language.
4. Mind your facial expressions. Remember that you cannot see yourself.
5. Body language speaks volumes. Don’t do moves you can’t do.
6. Don’t agree with things you don’t understand or agree with.
7. Hostile words are unnecessary, and can achieve the opposite effect.
8. A smile costs nothing and makes a huge difference in a conversation.
9. Make an extra effort to check what is said or your listener’s understanding.
10. Above all, always be yourself. Trying to behave differently will only complicate things.
If you try any of these and it works for you, take it for granted. If it doesn’t, it’s probably stupid.
