Everyone feels lonely at one time or another. And making new friends can be difficult in today’s turbulent and unpredictable world. Our friends and acquaintances can be so busy and busy that they don’t even notice how lonely we are. We can’t tell them how we feel because we don’t want to hurt anyone. Therefore. . . The small town where I live has a drawing club and people who enjoy sketching and drawing get together once or twice a month to do what they love. And there’s an art team, made up of local artists who support and encourage each other.
Whatever you enjoy doing, you can find a club or organization that can help you meet new friends.
4. Volunteer your time.
No matter where you live, there’s probably an animal shelter that needs volunteers to care for homeless pets.
Our local newspaper ran a story last week about a man who lost his job, so he volunteered at an animal shelter. He made many animal and human friends and soon became the director of the shelter. And now he has a new life that he absolutely loves!
Almost every community has nursing homes where lonely, elderly and sick people live. Open your heart to them. By helping others, you help yourself.
I know people who take their therapy pets to nursing homes and group homes for homeless children, where they let their pets touch the lives of the elderly and sick. I know others who take gift baskets to nursing homes. and others play music for those who are disabled or bedfast.
5. Take your dog to obedience class.
You’ll meet other dog owners and you can take part in fun encounters and obedience trials. Tip: Avoid using your pet as a substitute for human companionship. But a happy, healthy dog can introduce you to new friends!
6. Go to your house of worship and participate.
There will be events you can attend and people to meet, classes to attend, and special services to attend. You will find caring people who can help you make new friends and connections. Kindly reach out to other lonely people in the religious community. Your loneliness will go away!
7. Find someone in your life to help in some way. Sometimes just being a good listener will make you many new friends. Find someone who lives on your street or in your apartment house who will welcome your friendship and strike up a conversation.

Be polite even if you are shy. You might just want to ask someone what interesting drink they have, or talk about the news or the weather. Engage in conversations — they’re a pain reliever of loneliness!
9. Read the local newspaper.
You will feel more part of the world by keeping up with current affairs. And there are always stories about local groups and organizations that might interest you and give you a chance to meet people.

13. Get a part-time job at a restaurant or other business where you can meet and serve people and take an interest in other employees.
14. Avoid being a stranger. There are people out there who want and need you to know, but you have to seek them out! Suppose you go to a bookstore and you open the door for others. For example, if you go to a nearby walking track that is frequented by many people in your community. . . Instead of keeping to yourself and avoiding social interaction, talk to other walkers and engage in conversation. Soon someone will warm to you and you will have a nice, rewarding discussion. Going there several times a week will allow you to continue your new relationships with others who will exercise and meet new people.
You don’t have to be an extrovert to let your light shine and make friends with others. In return, they will be your friends.
15. Find ways to make yourself more attractive. We all have flaws. Identify yours and work to change them, thus making yourself more attractive to others.

Good deeds always come back to us in surprising ways. They open doors for us in their good time. As you open your arms to others, you will develop relationships with many people.
