How to Solve Error Message LSA Shell Has Encountered an Error?
If you see the following error message “LSA shell has encountered an error” when you are connected to the Internet and get a 60 second countdown causing your PC to shutdown or if your process is running the malicious LSASS.exe “LSA shell export version”, this article may be of interest to you. The LSA (Local Security Authority) shell is a legal and required component of Windows used to control and authenticate logons for local and remote users in Windows NT, 2000, XP, and Vista. It is almost impossible to logon if the LSA shell service is down or damaged. However, there are many known spyware and trojans that pretend to be legitimate lsass.exe. They usually have the same name or one of the following names: lsass.exe, lsass2.exe, lassa.exe, isass.exe and many others. Please note that a legitimate lsass.exe should be in the WindowsSystem32 folder and not appear in the startup list.
In most cases this means that your PC has a Sasser, W32.Blaster or Blaster32 virus. This virus causes the LSA shell and RPC (Remote Procedure Call) to fail when you access the Internet. By default Windows shuts down the PC in case of such failure. Shutdown is not done immediately but within 60 seconds after failure to save your work. However, it is not enough to solve the problem. This default behavior of Windows can be changed. You can tell Windows not to restart the whole PC but only to service if RPC fails. This will give you enough time to solve the problem.
You can remove isass.exe or lsass.exe and fix “LSA shell export version” and solve similar problems manually.
