Learning Chess – Chess Game Piece Roles
Whether you are brand new to chess or you have been a chess player for a while now, knowledge is the power to improve your game. Therefore, it is very important to understand both the names and proper use of each chess game piece. To win a game of chess, you must carefully devise a great strategy to defeat your opponent. Therefore, playing chess is not only a great way to keep your mind sharp, but it’s also a lot of fun!
As you probably already know, chess is a game played between two people. As with any board game, you both take alternate turns. One player will use all the white pieces and the other player will then use all the black pieces. The way a chess game works is that you each move one game piece at a time, and the person who manages to capture the enemy’s king is declared the winner of the game.
Next, let’s look at each individual piece. First, there is the bishop. A bishop game piece can only be moved diagonally in a straight line. However, there is no limit to the number of classes they can move. A rook game piece often looks like a small tower. You can move the rook vertically or horizontally. Like the bishop, there is no limit to how many squares the rook can move.
Many consider the queen to be the most powerful piece in chess because the queen game piece options are practically limitless. You can move the queen game piece in any direction you choose be it diagonal, vertical or horizontal and you can move the queen any number of squares you want. Like the queen, the king game piece can also be moved in any direction. However, the king piece is somewhat limited as it can only be moved one square at a time.
A knight is usually easily recognized because it often resembles a horse. The knight’s piece moves in a strange pattern. This pattern is somewhat difficult to explain, but some say it can be described as forming an L-shape. A knight is the only game piece that is allowed to jump over other game pieces.
Last but certainly not least, is the pawn. In the game of chess, pawns are generally considered to be the weakest playing pieces. One reason for this is that they are somewhat limited in their movement, as one is only allowed to move a pawn piece forward and not back.
Good luck, and I hope you enjoy learning how to play chess!
