"AI" Of Human-Kind

“AI”… of the human race!

“Which came first, the chicken or the egg?”

A few years ago, you may remember a publication describing our increasing dependence on machines, devices and “AI”. On many occasions, I have tried to bring awareness to this phenomenon of creating and/or recreating artificial intelligence capabilities… over and over again. What was once a ‘science-fiction’ story has been brought to life, a scientific fact.

The article “Device Machine Dependent” describes instances and scenarios where robots or robotics are designed to imitate the actions, abilities, and appearance of human beings… “human-like”; “His Maker’s Image!”

How many times have you gotten into your car and engaged in a shouting match or argumentative dialogue with your ‘GPS’ or “onboard interface”? Oh, come on now… Don’t you get annoyed when the noise from behind the machine gives you bad or wrong direction? You certainly have.

Selene Yeager, a contributing writer, spoke about a doctoral student at Stanford University specializing in human-technology-communication.

“We (humans) get confused and angry because we don’t know what ‘GPS’ is “thinking,” says David Miller.

This author (yours truly), however, was and is guilty of that particular type of behavior. I remember keying in a direction (when that wasn’t satisfactory, I tried the voice command option), the damn thing told me; He told me to take the highway and exit… I followed him. When I realized the direction was completely wrong – the cursed voice told us “highway to hell!”

We traveled sixty miles outside and away from our planned “Pocono Mountain” destination.

Well, I’m here to tell you, I got mad for a moment (oh, like many) and started yelling at the voice inside the ‘GPS system’. Miller added, “In the future, when your GPS gives you directions, it gives you logic, so you have a better two-way relationship.”

… yeah right. I’m happy when and if I get to my unfamiliar destination… the right way! I don’t mean to be harsh on the device… it’s a nice little device when it works as expected.

“A Bite of the Apple” addressed the ‘IT’ community on larger issues related to Apple’s stance on “secret and proprietary practices” in the technology world; Hardware and software – especially its hardware products. Apple’s ‘IT’ decision makers justify an ergonomic flaw that reveals a preference for, what they call “Apple-like” form over function, i.e., the iMAC connector on the back of their machines is designed and/or dictated by the retention of the anus.

Their ‘IT’ management team describes the possible meaning of “anal retention”. It is the point at which the curvature changes from convex to concave or vice versa. It may also be called a “flex point” or “point of inflection”. Apple management says its proprietary devices are increasingly influencing business user marketing. Apple’s devices are entering the enterprise space because ‘IT’ managers like them, not users.

The ‘end-user’ report emphasizes the fact, indicating that the product(s) are good and excellent in terms of ease of use, design and reliability. Does anyone remember the definition of cloning?

Many of us have PCs in our homes today. And there are many people who think they are, and believe they are, when using home-robots like “Alexa” or IBM’s “Watson” and countless cloned devices that clean, monitor and coordinate their daily life or lifestyle.

Where is your cell phone?

These used to be desk-top computers that were the central ‘Internet’ connection. Then it’s ‘Laptop.’ These days “tablet” is becoming popular, but “smart-phone” outshines them all. All you have to do is look around… look and see how many people are walking, running, riding, driving and flying… reliant on these non-stop devices for their existence and their life this planet.

Not long ago, a terrible computer virus controlled about 400,00 computers in more than 160 countries in one of the worst international cyber attacks and computer infections.

The virus blocked all access to programs, files, mainframes, and networks until the computer’s owner paid a ransom. Eligible funds can only be paid by “Bitcoin”.

Bitcoin is an online currency that is almost impossible to trace. Bitcoin currency is purchased for a “ransom key”. Often, victims have paid to not get the key to unlock their computer (or) system, losing both their money and data.

This event will serve as a major wake-up call to users regarding their care or use of PCs and Internet devices and highly encouraged “must do” procedure(s) for prevention of viruses, botnets, web-crawlers, malware, etc. Worms etc.

I certainly agree with the author, Doug Shadel, in suggesting that users/owners regularly back up your important files to an external drive or remote storage service; Always have a pop-up blocker running on your web browser; immediately leave websites to which you were redirected without your consent; Use a reputable antivirus program – always keep it updated; Make sure your software (and anti-virus software) is up to date; Do not click on links or open attachments from email addresses you do not know; And only buy legal software – and register it.

Do you remember the scene in the movie “Star Wars” where the bar-tender yells for ‘Luke Skywalker’ to get out of his establishment?

It is the result of human prejudices against the visual machine or robot-type. Detroit, Michigan’s automobile industry and workforce are run entirely by robots (or robotics). Robots are performing major operations on humans and animals alike. Robots prepare food, pack and ship goods, drive cars, and diagnose human illnesses and diseases. Robots are answering telephones and redirecting calls. Robots are calling you on your telephone, reminding you of past due bills, appointments, prescription pickups, and trying to sell you goods and other services. Robots are building bridges, buildings and houses. Robots are doing everything humans or animals can and are doing. Ask yourself… how many jobs have gone and gone to robots?

“Many companies are using sentiment analysis to measure mood on social networks and/or the web… but gaining insights requires new tactics and skills,” said Doug Henchen of ‘Techweb’.

“Establishing a place in the new world of IT, BI, communications and analytics will definitely require new tactics and skill-sets.” This conclusion is presented in the published article “Destruction and Creation – A New Job Hyperbole”. No one can deny the tremendous and sweeping changes that have taken place in the ‘New World Economy’ of this century. What will happen in the coming centuries – will we be “Star-Trek-like”? “Logan’s Run?” What would a similar world and future look like? Will robots become the new judges, lawyers, congressional appointees, senators or presidents? Those of us who are aware, interested and/or motivated to continue mankind’s reign over machines, must become masters of both sides of IT/BI.

AI: Artificial intelligence … is the opposite of natural (human/animal-like) intelligence … the ability of a computer or robot to do what a human or animal normally or commonly does – with intelligence or intelligent capabilities. Ability to think.

How long will it be before humans (the human-species) are completely out-thought by “AI” – completely and utterly replacing us rather than being our one-time servants?

“How long? Not long!”

Now, doesn’t this argument surprise you…

“AI”… of the human race?

“Which came first, the chicken or the egg?”

Until next time…

‘G’
