Many students learn best using pictures or videos. In my grade school math classes, I knew I didn’t understand what the numbers or symbols represented, but when I was able to multiply by counting, or adding physical things I could see and touch like pennies, I was able to. to understand why math was useful and how I could apply it to other areas of my education.
Connecting Learning with Real Life Examples
One of the things that scares me is when teachers say, “why,” to a student’s question. That lazy answer.
Students are naturally inquisitive, and they want to know as much as they can. In 7th grade I had an amazing math teacher who led me to love math and physics, because of the way he gave questions. Every math problem we had to solve related to the person who created it – a toy called Bobo – and who was always in trouble.
