PowerPoint Tip – Create a Video Effect
You see that most sermons are made up of pictures, and most sermons look like that. But you can create a display that looks like a single image. You do this by making the end of one slide (after animation) the same as the beginning of the next slide (before animation). It can be a black background, dark red, or an image that covers the entire slide.
This process is time-consuming, because you have to find the right time, but it is not difficult, and it is much cheaper than making a video. It’s great for sales presentations.
The key is animation and timing. Instead, you create a presentation that can fit on one slide, but you use multiple images to make it easier to draw. Then you add time to the image to move the image to its end. In most cases, you also add context.
You can use many methods; Here are the steps to create a simple video presentation:
1. Choose a story and pictures to tell the story. The story I used was a flight from Iowa to California and I took pictures from the plane. For me, the pictures drove the story, but you can start with a story (let’s say about your company), and then find pictures to match.
2. Write the script and choose the images that will fit each part. Then he divided the script into about 4 or 5 scenes. This may work if the presentation takes only a few minutes. Add more images to display longer.
3. Connect a microphone to your computer and open a voice recording program. I used Audacity, a free recording and editing program. I highly recommend it; used by many professionals. It is easy to use. If you download, be sure to read the instructions for, and download, the LAME MP3 encoder, which allows you to save files in MP3 format.
4. Record and save a separate MP3 file for each slide.
5. In PowerPoint, insert the appropriate MP3 file for each slide, by choosing Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File. (In PowerPoint 2007, Insert tab > Media Clips group > Sound drop-down list > Sound from File.) Select the Options option when you see the dialog box. The sound will start playing as soon as the slide appears. Drag the text icon from the slide.
6. In Windows Explorer, right-click the MP3 file, and select Properties. In the Properties dialog box, click the Details tab to find the height of the sound.
7. Once you know the length of your audio file, decide when you want your images to appear. You can double-click the words on the slide, listen with the stopwatch, and find the time of each word you want to display a new slide.
8. Open the Custom Animation task pane by choosing Slide Show > Custom Animation (Animations tab > Custom Animation in PowerPoint 2007). You will see a noise there. If you add a custom animation, the sound will stop after it starts, so click the down arrow at the bottom of the Custom Animation task pane, and select Effects Options. In the Stop Playing section, select After Current Slide, so that the sound continues through all the other slides on the slide.
9. If you want the first slide to fade to black as it moves to the next slide, right-click on the slide and select Format Background. Select a solid black background and repeat the second slide. If instead you want to use a picture, draw the background of 2 pictures with the same picture, or put the picture on two pictures and send it behind the system. (Right-click, and select Order > Send to Back, or just send to Back.)
10. Place the pictures you want to use on the slide. Move them (shake them) so you can select them individually. Click the first one. Most of the time, you want it to take up the whole picture, but it doesn’t have to; Change the size if you want. Select Add Effect > Entry, and add an effect. Change its Start option to Previous. To add a little delay instead, select After After, click the item arrow under the task field, select Time, and set the delay.
11. If you want the image to disappear before the next one, select Add Effect > Exit and select an effect. Set Start to After Previous and set a delay equal to the time you want the next image to enter.
12. Select the second image and add animation. If you want it to start when the previous image is displayed, set Start to With Previous. Otherwise, set it to After Previous and set the delay according to the times you wrote in your script. You want it to come in when the actual words are being spoken. You need to test the results and make adjustments.
13. Continue until you show your photos, exit them at the end, to see the color or image.
14. Set a photo interval. Choose Slide Show > Slide Transition (in 2007, Animations Tab > Slide Transition in this group). In the Advance Slide section, check the Automatically After check box and enter the number of seconds, which should be equal to the length of the sound. Again, you may want to adjust the timing slightly after seeing results. Do this for all images.
