Ten Tips to Transition Into Fall Fitness
If you live in winter, it’s clear that the warm, carefree days of 2010 are almost over.
The leaves are changing, the wind is blowing colder and the days are getting shorter since fall officially started on September 22nd.
It is the fall that is being introduced into it that affects how people will be motivated or choose to be. But there are many ways to stay busy, and prepare for the cold days ahead.
Here are 10 tips for getting fit:
1st active hike – Prepare for the weather and dress accordingly for a quick hike on a wild trail, or just for a spin around the neighborhood.
2 Go for a bike ride – Most fall days are warm enough to go on a 20 or 30 mile bike ride, or even longer if you’re an experienced rider.
3 Organize a pick-up game – Whether it’s football, basketball or softball in the fall, get some people together for a friendly competition outside on the nice last days of the year to do it in cooler climates.
4 Yard Jobs – Get some exercise while doing quick summer chores, like mowing leaves, cleaning flower beds and cooling the house. Your body will look better, you’ll burn more calories and you’ll feel better that you’re doing better.
5 Prepare your gym – Take the time to plan where you’ll prepare when the weather forces you to go inside more – unless you’re a Nordic, cold-weather athlete.
Do things like clean your exercise equipment, make sure the treadmill and/or elliptical is working properly and maybe consider adding exercise equipment to your home gym.
6 Improve your diet – Take an honest look at your diet and see if there are areas you can improve. It is very easy to gain weight in the winter months if you are not careful, start good habits now.
7 Get enough sleep – Make sure you get enough sleep because it will help you stay healthy.
8 Run a road race – There are many local 5K and 10K races held every week. This is a great way to stay focused and motivated while training.
9 Go rafting – Go on a boat, kayak or rafting trip while soaking up the atmosphere.
10 Make time for yourself – If people don’t pay attention, they can burn out because of a busy life. Take time to relax. Stop and smell the flowers, or in this case, feel the leaves rustling under your feet on a nice, peaceful walk.
